Lake Livingston Texas Wedding | Samantha & Derrick

los-angeles-destination-photographer-10 “…There never seems to be enough time, but as long as we can be with one another, it’s all going to be good!”

I had the immense pleasure of being a part of Samantha & Derrick’s Lake Livingston destination wedding in Texas. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, we felt like part of the family immediately. Most of the guests came from Canada, so we all enjoyed the heat and humidity together (100 degrees fahrenheit and 86% humidity, to be precise!). Thank goodness for air-conditioning 😉

Derrick & Samantha’s day was relaxed and slow-paced, perfectly in line with what the two had in mind. From Samantha, “We wanted the wedding to be fun and relaxed – more of a family reunion with a wedding stuck in the middle of it than anything really formal. The most important thing for both of us was that everyone felt comfortable and had fun, and that it wasn’t stressful – and really, it couldn’t have gone better!”

We started off with getting ready and detail photos. Sam’s short summery wedding dress was perfect for the weather, and her purple diamond-studded shoes added such a great pop of color!

As a blended family, Derrick & Sam chose to have their sons and youngest nieces and nephews serve as the wedding party. The two chose Sam’s aunt & uncle’s Lake Livingston lakehouse as their wedding location because it is where they took their first vacation as a family, and it is such a stunning place, with all the greenery, wildlife, and of course, the lake–just wait until you see the sunset photos overlooking the lake!

Sam’s orange and purple calla lily wedding bouquet matched her shoes, as well as the wedding’s summery feel.

We had a few onlookers, who were a little too shy to join the party, but were kind enough to pose for a little while…

The sunlight coming through the trees was absolutely perfect!

So how did Derrick pop the question?

“One day last September, Derrick met me at the car as I was getting home from work. It was hot out and I wanted to go into the house and change, but he got the kids to unload the car and started pulling me down the lane for a walk. He got onto one knee and proposed just as Owen came screeching up on his bike saying he had a secret he couldn’t tell me. The kids had seen the ring before I got home and Derrick wanted to beat them to spilling the beans!”

We snuck on to a neighbor’s dock to get these cool leading-lines sunset shots.

So what are Sam & Derrick most looking forward to as a married couple?

“…being together, watching the kids grow, and spending lots of time with our friends and families. There are always projects we’re working on, and there never seems to be enough time, but as long as we can be with one another, it’s all going to be good!

I think that’s a great mantra to live by…

Thanks Derrick & Sam for allowing us to be a part of your special day, and here’s to a lifetime of happiness!
