The Ranch House Ojai Wedding | Sue+Tayler

Bride and groom sunset photos at The Ranch House Ojai wedding.“I couldn’t see myself without Sue, I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. That’s how I knew I wanted to marry her.”

Tayler and Sue’s The Ranch House Ojai wedding was a wildflower lover’s dream–the garden setting of The Ranch House gave this wedding beautiful, vibrant colors, and sunset coming through the trees was absolutely stunning. Complemented with the florals, this Ojai wedding was as radiant as Sue and Tayler’s love!Getting ready details at the Capri Hotel in Ojai wedding.Getting ready details at the Capri Hotel in Ojai wedding.Getting ready details at the Capri Hotel in Ojai wedding.Getting ready details at the Capri Hotel in Ojai wedding.Getting ready details at the Capri Hotel in Ojai wedding. From Sue & Tayler…

“We were really inspired by the wildflower fields in Ojai and wanted to use that theme in our wedding. Jack and Kiriana’s New Zealand Rotorua wedding Day After photoshoot was one for the books! Although rain persisted the day after their wedding, Kiriana and Jack could not have been better sports about it. We grabbed a clear umbrella, weathered the storm, and explored some of Rotorua’s best spots!Bride and groom hugging on a bridge during their New Zealand Rotorua Wedding.Bride and groom walking together after their Rotorua, New Zealand wedding. We started our New Zealand Rotorua Wedding Day After Photoshoot with a few small bridges and walkways along Rotorua Lake. From the couple…

“Rotorua provides a diverse range of natural environments from lakes, rivers and streams to gardens, forests and geothermal activity. It was the perfect location to capture so many different outdoor niches in such a short amount of time.”Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Next came Kuirau Park for Jack and Kiriana’s New Zealand Rotorua Wedding Day After Photoshoot–We would be remiss not to include photos with geothermal activity, which is one of the things Rotorua is best known for!Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and groom walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park during their New Zealand Rotorua Wedding. The newlyweds walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand. The newlyweds walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand. The newlyweds walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand. The newlyweds walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand. The newlyweds walking around the geothermal Kuirau Park in Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and groom enjoying the tropical scenery right outside Rotorua, New Zealand.Bride and Groom enjoying the Blue and Green Lake viewing point in Rotorua, New Zealand. Our final stop for the New Zealand Rotorua Wedding Day After Photoshoot was the Blue and Green Lake viewing point, where the Blue Lake is seen to the right, and the Green Lake is seen to the left. From Jack…

“Kiriana shares my passions for family, science, nature and travel. She understands me like no-one else, and whether we’ve been apart for a week or living together 24 hours a day for a month, I’m still always excited to be with her.”Bride and groom using a clear umbrella to shield them from the rain during their Blue Lake Rotorua New Zealand wedding Day After photos.Bride and groom using a clear umbrella to shield them from the rain during their Blue Lake Rotorua New Zealand wedding Day After photos. And what does Kiriana love most about Jack…

“That’s a really hard question to answer. There are lots of things I love about Jack, we have many shared passions. But what I love the most about Jack is his determination and his sense of adventure. Jack can achieve anything he sets his mind to, and I admire that about him.”Bride and groom using a clear umbrella to shield them from the rain during their Blue Lake New Zealand Rotorua wedding Day After photos.Bride and groom using a clear umbrella to shield them from the rain during their Blue Lake Rotorua New Zealand wedding Day After photos.Thank you, Jack and Kiriana, for not only trusting me to photograph your Rotorua New Zealand wedding day, but also for rolling with Mother Nature and having FUN with it! I hope to be back in New Zealand soon!

Rotorua New Zealand Wedding | Kiriana+Jack

Newlyweds hug in the Rotorua Redwoods Forest after their Under the Sails wedding ceremony in Rotorua, New Zealand.“I knew early on that Kiriana was the one, but I couldn’t choose where to propose – So instead I bought Kiriana a special bracelet and then a charm in every location that we visited over five years to eventually spell ‘Marry me?’ (which Kiriana caught onto and figured out pretty early on). That way I didn’t have to choose, and spread the proposal from New Zealand to the Amazon rainforest and from Paris to the Galapagos Islands.”

If that’s not the perfect combination of romance and adventure, I don’t know what is! Kiriana and Jack’s Rotorua New Zealand wedding was straight out of a fairy-tale book. The details at their Rotorua Redwoods Under the Sails wedding ceremony were absolute perfection, the Redwoods Forest and Treewalk divine, and the Skyline Rotorua wedding reception venue completed the day with just the right amount of adventure–a gondola and luge ride to welcome everyone in to a night of dancing and celebration! This was definitely a wedding day to remember, and I am so honored Jack and Kiriana chose me to capture their wedding day.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding details during the Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding. We began the Rotorua New Zealand wedding day with Jack’s getting ready photos.  Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Groom getting ready during his Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding rings during a Rotorua, New Zealand wedding.Wedding rings during a Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Up next was Kiriana’s getting ready photos.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Bridal details at Rotorua, New Zealand Wedding.Kiriana gave all her bridesmaids matching rings.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Bride getting ready for her Rotorua New Zealand wedding.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue. The wedding ceremony was held at the Redwoods Under the Sails Venue, which was perfectly selected not only for the theme of the day, but was brilliant in allowing an outdoor wedding to continue, regardless of Mother Nature’s rainy plans for the day!Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Kiriana and Jack included two colored ribbons on their wedding arch to represent their fathers who weren’t able to be with them.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Wedding ceremony set up at Rotorua's Redwood Forest Under the Sails wedding venue.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony.Rotorua Redwoods Forest Under the Sails wedding ceremony. The outdoor venues provided the perfect combination of natural New Zealand beauty in an environment we absolutely love, in addition with an opportunity to share adventure and fun with all of our guests being able to have a gondola and luge ride. Hendry’s Beach Engagement Photos | Suzy+Paul

Bride and groom in the water during sunset at Hendry's Beach in Santa Barbara.“We worked together for two years and started dating after the first year.  The kids speculated we were a couple but we kept it cool.”

Paul and Suzy’s Hendry’s Beach Engagement photos were taken on a cold day, but the duo cozied on up together, along with their adorable pup, Dexter, and breezed right through it. They were even brave enough to dip their feet in the ocean! To top it off, we lucked out with a gorgeous sunset.

Couple hugging at their Hendry's Beach engagement photoshoot in Santa Barbara, CA.Couple hugging at their Hendry's Beach engagement photoshoot in Santa Barbara, CA.How did Paul propose?

“I proposed to Suzy in Costa Rica on Playa Hermosa.  It was the last night of our trip when we we had the night to ourselves after a long week of hanging with friends.  I had to convince a very tired Suzy to take a walk on the beach after we had been there most of the day.  It was cloudy and kind of raining and she did not want to go, but she did obliged.  We found a log on the beach to sit down on.  We were having a discussion and I interrupted to get on a knee and asked her to marry me.  She thought I was ridiculous but ended up saying yes.”

“Suzy and I met in Oakland, California.  I was in the Americorp working for a non-profit called Playworks and Suzy just received a R.D. License and took a part-time job with ADA called Energy Balance for Kids.  We were paired up to bring exercise and nutrition to a low-income school in the Bay Area.  I would provide the physical activity and Suzy would bring nutritional knowledge to the kids.  We became a great combo, changing the culture of the of school, to the point where the students became confident in their physical abilities and new nutritional knowledge.  I turned a recess of dangers, fights and segregation to a united, fun, safe and playful recess.  Suzy was able to make fruit and veggies cooler than Cheetos and pizza.  We worked together for two years and started dating after the first year.  The kids speculated we were a couple but we kept it cool.”Couple hugging at their Hendry's Beach engagement photoshoot in Santa Barbara, CA.Couple hugging at their Hendry's Beach engagement photoshoot in Santa Barbara, CA.Couple hugging at their Hendry's Beach engagement photoshoot in Santa Barbara, CA.Paul and Suzy’s Hendry’s Beach engagement photos were perfectly located to fit their unique passions. From Paul…

“For the engagement photo session we wanted to keep it local in Santa Barbara and at a place that we go to all the time, and most importantly, allows our dog, Dexter, to roam around. He is everything to us and without him there with us it would have felt like we were missing an important piece. We also love the beach, the sunsets, and the islands in the background.”The newly engaged couple at Hendry's Beach rocks.Sunset photos of engaged couple at Hendry's Beach. The newly engaged couple at Hendry's Beach rocks. The newly engaged couple during their Hendry's Beach engagement photos.Sunset photos of engaged couple at Hendry's Beach.Bride and groom walking along beach at Hendry's Beach.Sunset photos of engaged couple at Hendry's Beach.Sunset photos of engaged couple at Hendry's Beach. The colors at Suzy and Paul’s Hendry’s Beach engagement photos turned absolutely magical, with a variety of golden, purple and pink hues. Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens Engagement | Jessica+Kevin

Bride and groom laughing at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens in Santa Barbara, California.“Six years later and many laughs, talks, and adventures together, we cannot wait to tie the knot and share this experience with our family and friends!”

We took Kevin and Jessica’s engagement photos at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens. Although it definitely was not a warm day (!), the sun was shinning, and the laughs were rolling. Engaged couple walking around Alice Keck Park in Santa Barbara, Califronia.Bride and groom laughing at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens in Santa Barbara, California. From Jessica,

“We officially met at our company holiday party. I worked in Santa Barbara at the time, while Kevin worked in Santa Monica, and while we had talked over the phone a couple of times, we hadn’t met in person. At the company holiday party, I stayed in the corner the entire time avoiding Kevin’s eye contact and infectious laughter, as the life of the party he always is. Although I tried to avoid him at all costs, he found his way into my life with his winning phone conversation skills and how much he cares about those around him. After weeks of endless phone conversations Kevin asked me to show him around Santa Barbara. What we thought would be a simple hike turned into an all day Santa Barbara adventure. Six years later and many laughs, talks, and adventures together, we cannot wait to tie the knot and share this experience with our family and friends!”

Glen Annie Golf Club Wedding | Nicole+Robby

Bride and groom's sunset photos at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta, CA.“I knew you were the one the moment I met you. There was something about the way you stood up to me and looked me in the eye. Confident, independent, beautiful.”

Some couples radiate love, affection and ease, and Robby and Nicole definitely fall into that category. Their entire day seemed effortless and full of emotion, and not just from the happy couple–every single person in attendance was clearly so joyful to partake in celebrating Nicole and Robby’s Glen Annie Golf Club wedding. The day was a joint effort by so many people…From Nicole, “Our wedding was about more than just us. We wanted our friends and family members to know how much they have contributed to our relationship over the past seven years, and we wanted to convey a sense of community togetherness throughout the entire weekend.”

We started off the day with getting ready photos at Nicole’s parents’ home where she grew up. Being able to incorporate items and locations with meaning gives these details a much more personalized feeling. More from Nicole…

“We have been through a lot during our seven years together, and writing notes to each other has always been our way of capturing a moment in time, and expressing our love for one another. Letters helped us stay connected during periods of our relationship when we did long distance. They helped us say things that were hard to express out-loud even when we lived together.

For the thirty days leading up to the wedding, Robby wrote me a letter every single day that I would open in the morning with my coffee. It was hands down one of the most romantic things he’s ever done for me. The day of the wedding he gave me the final letter, and I wrote one to him as well, capturing a moment in time forever and giving us both a portal to recapture the feeling of that day over and over again.” Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom's first look at the Santa Barbara Glen Annie Golf Club.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.Bridal portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club.Bridal portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club.Bridal portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.Bridal party portraits the a Glen Annie Golf Club wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.

Santa Barbara Elopement | Danelle+Steve

Newlyweds walking around at Ennisbrook trails during their Santa Barbara elopement.“I looked at her and knew that I was the luckiest guy on the planet and never wanted to be without her.”

Danelle and Steve eloped on a perfect fall day in Santa Barbara. We celebrated their union at the iconic Santa Barbara Courthouse, enjoyed some beautiful rays of sunshine in Montecito, and watched the sun set on the beach. This Santa Barbara elopement was perfectly planned for a relaxed day, and these two were just bursting with love. Couple eloping at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Couple eloping at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. We began at the Courthouse with the ceremony for Steve and Danelle’s Santa Barbara elopement.Couple eloping at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Couple during their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement wedding ceremony.Couple during their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement wedding ceremony.Couple during their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement wedding ceremony.Couple during their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement wedding ceremony.Couple during their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement wedding ceremony.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.I asked the two why they decided on these locations for their Santa Barbara elopement…

“When Steve proposed we knew we wanted to get started on our future together. We didn’t want to skip a wedding but we also wanted to focus on house, family, and travel. There were lots of ideas of destinations around the world, as we wanted to feel like we were on an adventure that we happened to get married on. Then came the exciting news of our little family starting in the new year! We landed on a close location of California, and decided to elope just us two and enjoy a relaxing babymoon. Santa Barbara has such a magical feel to it with the charm and architecture, and the relaxing leisurely vibe was much appreciated. While we wanted to elope we still wanted the elements of joining the institution of marriage. The courthouse was the perfect venue to feel the commitment and it’s stunning architecture made for amazing photos.”Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement. From Danelle…

“In keeping with the relaxing boho feel, our wedding items were made by independent artisans.  I had my dress made by a local dressmaker in Calgary. When I was a child my mom made flower girl dresses, and the pastime of shopping for beautiful lace and fabrics at her favorite fabric shop was relived once again as we sorted through bolts of lace. It added such a special sentiment to the dress to have her so involved in the process. Our wedding bands were made by a jewelry designer in Brooklyn, NY that I found on Etsy. The ring Steve proposed with is incredibly special, as it was my late grandmother’s. I love heirloom jewelry and giving special pieces like that a new chapter. My favourite Etsy find was our florist, White Lily Lane. I can’t say enough about how amazing the flowers look and the service was amazing! Plus I love that I get to keep them in our home to enjoy for years to come! The special added touch was the mini flower crown tucked in the box with a little note, as we had just found out that week we are expecting a little girl! These details just made our day so special, and sharing in the excitement of our day with these artisans felt so personal.”Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.Couple embracing after their Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement.

“I knew Steve was my person when we first went skiing/snowboarding together, because he was up for going anywhere on that mountain with me (no matter how crazy the terrain). I found my partner that would go on any adventure with me, and that includes the one life puts in our path. His patience and sincerity constantly amaze me, and I feel like I grow as a person each day I’m with him.”Newlywed couple walking around the interior of the Santa Barbara Courthosue.Newlywed couple walking around the interior of the Santa Barbara Courthosue.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Bride and groom walking around the Santa Barbara Courthouse after their wedding ceremony.Newlyweds walking around at Ennisbrook trails during their Santa Barbara elopement.Newlyweds walking around at Ennisbrook trails.Newlyweds walking around at Ennisbrook trails during their Santa Barbara elopement. How did Steve propose?

“The engagement proposal was tons of fun to plan out. Danelle had been away in California for a week, so I had a bit of time to prepare and think of how I was going to pop the question. I ended up being able to surprise her when she came home, by taking her to a condo resort on the mountain side at Panorama, for 5 days of skiing and relaxation. I wasn’t sure going up there when exactly I was going to ask; after fireworks? On the chairlift? Turned out that while we were standing on the patio of our ‘ski out’ resort, the moment seemed perfect. There was nobody around, and everything was peaceful. I looked at her and knew that I was the luckiest guy on the planet and never wanted to be without her. After the proposal, I put the ring on her finger and I immediately felt different. More mature, more confident, and proud to have her by my side!”

The photos were so much fun, and thankfully we had excellent direction! The locations were all so different, as we wanted to capture the variety of Santa Barbara. It’s impossible to pick a favorite as the courthouse carries the sentiment of our ceremony, then there was the magical enchanted forest, and the beach was an iconic California evening. It really was so perfect.” Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.Bride and groom sunset photos at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.White Lily Lane wedding flowers at a Santa Barbara elopement.White Lily Lane wedding flowers at a Santa Barbara elopement.White Lily Lane wedding flowers at a Santa Barbara elopement.Bride and groom Santa Barbara elopement sunset photos on Butterfly Beach. So what’s in store for the couple next?

From Danelle…”With this kind of beginning I can’t wait to see the adventures ahead. It was so nice to come back to our new home, and prepare for our little baby girl to arrive. I can’t wait to see Steve as a dad, because he’s already such an amazing partner. I’m so glad we soaked in the moments during our day and trip, as the pictures take us back whenever we see them. “Bride and groom Santa Barbara elopement sunset photos on Butterfly Beach. And from Steve…

“Looking ahead we have so much to be excited for! A new house, and a baby on the way is just the beginning of this amazing adventure we’re on. I look forward to the ups and the downs of life and being able to share the experiences and overcome the obstacles with an amazing partner. It will be so interesting to watch our little girl grow through the years and see what kind of a person she will become. I hope time doesn’t go by too fast, I will have to remember to always cherish the moments as they pass by, and hope that tomorrow is just as amazing as today.

I can already tell Danelle will be an amazing mom, she is so kind hearted and Is great with people and animals alike. Kids I suppose will be a combination of the two. Whether it be traveling the world together and living through one adventure after another, or becoming the dorky parents that join book clubs and fantasy football leagues, there is no other person that I would want to share these experiences with.”Bride and groom Santa Barbara elopement sunset photos on Butterfly Beach.Congratulations, Steve and Danelle! So many exciting things to celebrate and I am so happy I was able to capture these moments for you!

Boulder, Colorado Wedding Portraits | Katie+Kyle

Amazing bride and groom sunset photos in Boulder, Colorado.

“We met at a party I hosted for new graduate students. Katie walked in and my heart literally started beating faster. I then introduced myself and felt butterflies and instantly fell in love with her.”

Katie and Kyle’s Boulder, Colorado wedding portraits were a breeze to capture. Katie grew up in Colorado and has family there, so the two decided to tie the knot in her hometown, and anyone who knows me knows I can’t refuse an excuse to travel! It was a laid back evening, with a perfect sunset to top it off.

Couple walking on a bridge in Boulder, Colorado.Couple walking on a bridge in Boulder, Colorado.

We drove up towards the mountains from Boulder, Colorado, and stopped at one of the trails. The sun kept peering in and out of the clouds, giving us lots of variety and great photo opportunities. Newlyweds walking on a trail in Boulder, Colorado, while holding hands.Newlyweds walking on a trail in Boulder, Colorado, while holding hands.Bride posing on a trail in Boulder, Colorado.Bride posing on a trail in Boulder, Colorado.Bride posing on a trail in Boulder, Colorado.

“We had a midsummers night dream/ fairy/ renaissance theme because we love fantasy. The theme was inspired by my dress. The sleeves reminded me of fairy wings. We jumped on that theme because it was a great excuse to buy lots of stuff at the Renaissance festival. Who doesn’t want an excuse to splurge on crowns and a sword? It also meant the year leading up to the wedding we had an excuse to go to every Ren Fest within driving distance.”Bride holding her dog during her Boulder, Colorado, wedding.Bride holding her dog during her Boulder, Colorado, wedding.

“The dog is our baby, so of course she was included. Plus, she’s damn cute.”

How did Kyle propose?

“I surprised Katie at Disneyland. She “relationship proposed” to me a year earlier, so I took her for her birthday and went to the wishing well. I got gold dollars and told her to “make a really good wish”. So we both made wishes. I asked what hers was,  she said, “I’m not telling you,  because then it won’t come true”. Then she said, “what’s yours?” I got down on one knee and said, “I wish for you to spend the rest of your life with me”. She of course said yes.”

From Katie, about how she knew Kyle was ‘the one’…

“Kyle and I were best friends but were dating other people. We’d go on dates, then meet up with each other to gossip about those dates. It was my mom who knew before I did. We were chatting on the phone and she was like “you keep talking about Kyle- why don’t you just date him?” and I was like “I honestly would, but his family seems kinda nuts, I don’t think I want to set myself up for that kind of drama”. And she said “Honey, if I had let crazy family drama stop me I never would have married your father”. How much my family loves Kyle should also be added to the “what I love about Kyle” list. My mom decided she loved him just from hearing me talk on the phone about him!”Newlyweds embracing on a bridge on a Boulder, Colorado trail in the Rockies mountains.Newlyweds embracing on a bridge on a Boulder, Colorado trail in the Rockies mountains.Newlyweds embracing on a bridge on a Boulder, Colorado trail in the Rockies mountains.Newlyweds embracing on a bridge on a Boulder, Colorado trail in the Rockies mountains.Bride and groom walking with their dog at a Boulder, Colorado hiking trail.

What does Katie love most about Kyle?

“I love Kyle’s resilience, his work ethic, his generous spirit, his sense of play, his healthy attitude towards the people in his life, the way he treats me, how much kids and animals love him, his cooking… gosh there are a lot of things, I can’t even list them all.”Bride and groom posing with the Rockie Mountains behind them.Bride and groom sitting on rocks in the Colorado Rockies.Bride and groom sitting on rocks in the Colorado Rockies.Bride and groom sitting on rocks in the Colorado Rockies.Bride and groom sitting on rocks in the Colorado Rockies.Bride and groom sitting on rocks in the Colorado Rockies.

What is Katie most looking forward to as a married couple?

“Kyle is going to make such an amazing dad. He already has the dad jokes down. On a different note, part of what made it so easy to commit to Kyle is that we want the same things out of life. Our careers and family goals sync up so well. With Kyle it seems like every choice we want to make, the other wants to make as well.  It’s easy to make each other happy”.
