Santa Barbara Courthouse Engagement Photoshoot | Caitlin+Darren

Couple holding each other during Santa Barbara Courthouse engagement photos.

When you meet the love of your life at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), it’s a given your engagement photoshoot will be in beautiful Santa Barbara, no matter how far away you move. From Darren & Caitlin, “SB was like our second home, so it was fitting to pick a symbolic location like the Courthouse.  Plus it’s beautiful.”Bride and groom smiling at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom smiling at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom smiling at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.

I can’t even count the number of weddings and engagements I’ve photographed at this venue, and yet I always seem to find a new spot or a new angle, making every Santa Barbara Courthouse engagement photoshoot totally unique–it’s amazing! Having laid-back, awesome couples sure helps, too 😉

How did the two meet? From Darren…

“In 2009, we met for the very first time in the Student Resource Building (SRB) at UCSB. I needed help on an English paper. She needed her tutoring paycheck. She was very helpful. I complimented her on her “luminous” blue eyes and we didn’t speak again for years. In 2011, I got a job at the SRB as a front desk intake. I would always find excuses to chat with her. I asked her out to lunch and we immediately clicked. It was official as of 11/11/2011.”

How did Darren propose?

“I secretly prepared a romantic proposal with help from friends and family. On the bluffs overlooking UCSB’s beautiful coastline, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said Yes!”Engaged couple walking together around the Santa Barbara Courthouse grounds.Engaged couple walking together around the Santa Barbara Courthouse grounds.Engaged couple walking together around the Santa Barbara Courthouse grounds.Engaged couple walking together around the Santa Barbara Courthouse grounds.Engaged couple walking together around the Santa Barbara Courthouse grounds.

What are they most looking forward to on their wedding day?

From Caitlin, “Seeing the look on his face when he sees me in my wedding dress for the first time.”

From Darren, “Walking hand-in-hand down the aisle with my wife after the ceremony.”Creative bride and groom photos taken at a Santa Barbara Courthouse engagement photoshoot. With grins this big at their Santa Barbara Courthouse engagement photoshoot, I can’t wait for Darren & Caitlin’s Camarillo wedding!

Goleta Butterfly Grove Engagement Photos | Nicole+Robby

Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.“That’s how our love makes me feel –calm, exhilarated, fulfilled, all at once. He is my heart, and I just can’t wait to marry this man.” We celebrated Nicole and Robby’s love with their Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos. The two told me they were not fans of being in front of the camera, and then the magic you’ll find below ensued. Needless to say, they were complete naturals–not only were they a breeze to photograph, but they were also so fun to be around!Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve. How did the two meet?

“We met in college, at a tequila-infused Taco Tuesday party. After six or so months of friendly weekend hangouts and one-on-one games at the UofO rec center, we started dating. To this day, we still only really have serious conversations when we’re on the basketball court or out hiking in nature. I think that stems from how our relationship began up in Oregon!”Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve. The two gracefully and easily flowed from romantic movements, to fun embraces, to silly gestures during their Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos.Couple embracing at the Ellwood Butterfly Preserve.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.“Robby’s family ring is so special to us. His grandpa bought it back in the ’40’s, and it was his mom’s ring when his dad proposed to her on Angel Island in San Francisco. I am so touched and honored that his family accepts me as I am, and wants me to wear this ring – this symbol of Allen family unity that represents all that the family has been through, and the future ahead.”Engaged couple laughing together during their Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.A few words from Robby about Nicole…

“From the moment I saw her walking around campus at the University of Oregon, to the games of one-on-one we would play at the rec center, to the peak of Mt. Elden where we got engaged in Arizona six years later, it’s always been about the adventure with Nicole. Everyday is more exciting than the last and I feel tremendously lucky to have found someone I’m so compatible with, and who motivates me to give everything I have to living life. The adventure continues in this next chapter of life, together, as a family, building for the journey ahead.”Engaged couple laughing together during their Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove. We were able to capture a variety of backdrops at Robby and Nicole’s Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos.

“On our six-year anniversary at the top of Mount Elden in Flagstaff, Robby told me to close my eyes. There was snow at the top of the summit, so naturally, I thought a snowball fight was about to ensue. Instead, when I opened my eyes I didn’t see a white ball of ice sailing through the air – I saw Robby, down on one knee, holding his family ring, asking me to marry him. It was the most unexpected, perfect, thoughtful act he could commit at that moment – so much so that the first words out of my mouth were, ‘Are you sure?!’ I had no clue it was coming. Six (now seven) years earlier, I had no clue this love was coming, either – every day with Robby is the best surprise, and I feel so lucky to have a true partner for the rest of my life.”Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together at the Goleta Butterfly Grove.Engaged couple laughing together during their Goleta Butterfly Grove engagement photos.A few words from Nicole about Robby…

“He’s the only one I want, plain and simple. Robby makes me laugh every day. He makes me feel safe every night. He pushes me to explore my limits – to live outside of my comfort zone. I remember in our first year of dating, speed hiking to the top of Spencer’s Butte in Oregon. At the top, he held me as we breathed in unison, watching the air vibrate and snowflakes fall. That’s how our love makes me feel – calm, exhilarated, fulfilled, all at once. He is my heart, and I just can’t wait to marry this man.”

And I can’t wait to be there to photograph the two tying the knot!

Maternity Boudoir | Leah+Chris

Maternity boudoir silhouette photos on top of a rock in Santa Barbara. We celebrated Leah’s beauty and her body’s marvels with a maternity boudoir photoshoot, overlooking the Santa Ynez Valley on top of some of the highest points in Santa Barbara. What a beautiful way to celebrate this mother-to-be, while connecting with Mother Nature. Her sweetheart, Chris, was so attentive and so caring. He patiently observed as we photographed away, and also joined in on a few photos. We started off at Knapp’s Castle, and then headed to higher ground for a truly magical view and sunset.

From Leah…

“This pregnancy has been one for the books. From extreme nausea for months, migraines, 2 severe colds and a dislocated rib twice, rarely did I feel good. However, every time I looked in the mirror I grew more and more excited at what my body was capable of. I booked this boudoir maternity shoot to remind me of what a gift us women have to be able to grow a person inside us. To celebrate life. To celebrate me. These photos make me feel even more beautiful, strong and sexy!”Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Couple leans into each other at Knapp's Castle photoshoot.Expectant parents snuggle at Knapp's Castle engagement photoshoot.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Expectant mother smiles for the camera during her maternity boudoir photoshoot at Knapp's Castle in Santa Barbara.Maternity boudoir silhouette photos on top of a rock in Santa Barbara.Maternity boudoir silhouette photos on top of a rock in Santa Barbara.Maternity boudoir silhouette photos on top of a rock in Santa Barbara.

Ojai Meditation Mount Engagement Photos | Sue+Tayler

Ojai Meditation Mount engagement photos“When I looked back he was on one knee holding the ring. He didn’t even speak at first and my immediate response was “What are you doing?” That’s when he asked if I would marry him.”

Sue and Tayler’s Ojai Meditation Mount engagement photos turned out like a dream, with the sun setting over the Ojai hills and the abounding luscious greenery, complementing the affection the duo showed for each other. Tayler and Sue chose Meditation Mount for the engagement photos “because of the amazing scenery and the garden atmosphere. We love to do things outdoors and we wanted to reflect that with our pictures.” The couple holding each other during the Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photoshoot. The couple holding each other during the Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photoshoot. How did Tayler and Sue meet?

“We met at a friends BBQ and struck up a conversation pretty quickly over the dodgers game that was on TV.  We helped each other cook and bonded over the same music. Even though we liked each other then, we wouldn’t go on our first date for another 6 months when Tayler finally worked up the courage to ask me out to dinner.”Bride and groom kissing at their Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photo shoot. The couple holding each other during the Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photoshoot. The couple holding each other during the Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photoshoot.Bride and groom kissing at their Meditation Mount, Ojai engagement photo shoot.Candid photos of the bride and groom at Ojai Meditation Mount. How did Tayler propose?

“On our second date we went on a hike along the cove in Palos Verdes to the popular surf spot, Indicator. Tayler took me there because that was where he used to love to surf when he was younger. When he proposed, we did this same hike to a little look out spot. We brought a picnic and set it up while watching the waves. I was looking out at something he was pointing out and when I looked back he was on one knee holding the ring. He didn’t even speak at first and my immediate response was “What are you doing?” That’s when he asked if I would marry him.”

Fess Parker Wedding | Lara+Marcus

Bridal portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.“I first knew Marcus was the one the night he surprised me by filling the entire house with candles and cooked dinner with me. For most girls, that would have been enough to send them head over heels. But what really did it for me was when he put on music, and he started playing a song by this really obscure band that I love. I was shocked that he knew who they were, and when he told me he loved that band too, that was when I knew he was the one for me.”

Marcus and Lara’s Fess Parker wedding in Santa Barbara was filled with lots of laughter, love and fun, with all the best views and backdrops Santa Barbara has to offer. The duo chose the Fess Parker because it “was the perfect mixture of everything we wanted for our wedding: a gorgeous outdoor venue with a view of the ocean that we didn’t need to add much design or décor to, with great food and a beachy vibe. We could add our own personal little touches without having to go crazy, and we would not have changed one single thing about the day of the wedding. It was the perfect day we always imagined!”

Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.“I gave Marcus a watch. It is an old-fashioned looking watch that you have to wind daily, but it’s made of glass so you can see all of the cogs and springs working inside. I had our wedding date engraved on the back, and I got him a set of matching cuff links that have little cogs and gears on them. He’s been wearing the watch every day since the wedding, and he gets lots of compliments.”Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Groom getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.“I gave Lara her favorite perfume. It was actually the very first smell I remember when I met Lara, it is very distinct. I remember when I introduced myself to her, in a dark “18-and-over” club on a cruise ship to Cabo, I smelled her perfume and it reminded me of sweet flowers, almost like part honeydew and part citrus. It’s the same smell I smelled on our wedding day. She hasn’t had that perfume in some time, so I thought that day would be the best day to reintroduce that wonderful smell back into our lives.”Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride getting ready photos at the Fess Parker wedding.Bride and groom first look at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Lara and Marcus had their First Look at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. We were taking a walk and I went on a rant about how inaccurate some superhero movie was, and how the comic book was way better. I didn’t realize how dorky I sounded until I stopped talking, and I fulling expected her to look at me like I was a huge weirdo. But she didn’t make fun of me, she was actually interested and started to ask me more questions about comic books and superheroes. She loves me more for my quirks and weird eccentricities, and that makes her the perfect one for me.”Bride and groom first look at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom first look at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom first look at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bride and groom portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. The wedding party then joined us at the Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Marcus gave his groomsmen matching wooden watches.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.Bridal party portraits at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.“I decided to let all my bridesmaids all pick their own dresses. I wanted them all to feel comfortable and confident in their dresses, and they all have such different body shapes that I knew it would be impossible to find one dress that would look good on everyone. So I gave them some color ideas, and told them that the only requirement was that their dress be long. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, and isn’t afraid to go out of his way for the those he loves. That is one of the reasons I fell in love with him so fast: I could tell how much he cared about me. San Juan, Puerto Rico Couple’s Photoshoot | Melinda+Jonathan

Bride and groom watching the sunset from Castillo San Cristobal in San Juan, Puerto Rico.“She is the perfect companion for any adventure, whether it be chilling on the beach, hiking up a mountain, or being a couch potato at home.”

The loving couple, the vibrant colors and cultures, and the picturesque views and architecture all made this San Juan, Puerto Rico couple’s photoshoot one for the books. We wanted to capture the uniqueness of the city, so we started by walking around the old town and searching for some iconic, brightly-colored colonial-style buildings. We then made our way to Castillo San Cristóbal to catch the sunset with the ocean as our backdrop.Couple having fun during their Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, engagement photos.Couple having fun during their Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, engagement photos.Couple having fun during their Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, engagement photos.Couple having fun during their Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, engagement photos.Couple having fun during their Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, engagement photos.

I love when he snuggles close at night, while at the same time stealing my pillow. I love that he can’t keep surprises for too long because he gets too excited and has to reveal it. We both like to wanderlust and are keen to travel and explore as much as we can. He shares my passion for all things ocean, even if it includes some motion sickness and feeding fish along the way!”

Tel Aviv, Israel Engagement Photos | Shiran+Elad

Couple kissing at the Yarkon River in Tel Aviv, Israel.“Everything is just so easy…”

When you know, you just know…I spent the afternoon with Shiran & Elad at Park Ha’Yarkon documenting their love. Their Tel Aviv, Israel engagement photos were a breeze–they couldn’t contain their excitement and affection for one another, intermittent with bouts of silliness that just proved how at ease they are with each another.

Newly engaged couple posing for their engagement photos at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse in Santa Barbara, CA.“When I opened my eyes he was down on one knee. He said that he had waited until now because he wanted this to be my last thought on Christmas day. He said he wanted Christmas to be as special for me as I had made it for him over the last few years. He wanted this day to always make me smile and be a special day for us as a couple for the rest of our lives.”

Marcus and Lara showed up giddy and ready to rock their Santa Barbara Courthouse engagement session. A little bit of rain was not going to spoil their good moods and excitement! The two were so snuggly and cuddly–their happiness, comfort with each other and love could not have been more obvious.

“Marcus and I met on a Spring Break cruise to Cabo. Marcus was there with his friend, and I was there with my three roommates. We didn’t actually meet until we were on our way back from Cabo. There was a “night club” on the cruise ship, and my roommates and I went one night to see if it was fun. When we got there, my friend Kelsey and I realized we had forgotten our IDs. We went up to our room to get them, and when we came back down our other two friends had already gotten drinks. Kelsey and I were mad that they hadn’t gotten drinks for us too. That’s when Marcus materialized next to me and said “I’ll buy you a drink!”. I was slightly startled, but I said “Umm… ok sure.” And the rest is history!”Romantic Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photos.Creative Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photos.Creative Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photos.Creative Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photos.Indoor photos of a couple at the Santa Barbara Courthouse in California. How did Marcus propose?

“Marcus proposed on Christmas night 2014. Marcus’s favorite holiday is Christmas. He loves everything about it, and he wanted to make Christmas just special for me. We spent that Christmas day at my parent’s house. We all exchanged gifts in the morning, but when I gave Marcus my gift he said that he wanted to wait until later to give me his gift. The whole day, he continued to stall and asked me wait until later. Finally, it was 11:55pm on Christmas night, and Marcus said he was ready to give me my gift. But he said I had to close my eyes first. A few weeks before he had told me that he had gotten me earrings for Christmas, so I was kind of annoyed when he asked me to close my eyes because I thought he hadn’t bothered to wrap my present. Marcus just asked me again to close my eyes, so I grudgingly did. After a few seconds he said I could look, and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee. He said that he had waited until now because he wanted this to be my last thought on Christmas day. He said he wanted Christmas to be as special for me as I had made it for him over the last few years.
