Solvang Engagement Photos | Andrea+Matt

Engaged couple holding each other under the clear umbrella in the rain at Hans Christian Andersen Park in Solvang California.

“During our senior year at Davis, I was thinking about where to go to law school, and Matt said he would go anywhere with me. I ended up going to school in Chicago and Matt took the train out from California to be with me.”

And they’ve been following each other ever since! Matt and Andrea’s love story began in California, lead them to Chicago and Oklahoma City, and then back to California, where they’ll be celebrating the next chapter of their lives with their upcoming Solvang wedding.

Landscape photo of the Solvang mountains and the engaged couple at the Santa Ines Mission.Keeping an eye on the forecast, the likelihood of rain kept creeping up the closer we got to our engagement session date, and even to the exact time we were supposed to start taking photos. We decided to start earlier, in the hopes of beating the rain. We met at the Santa Ines Mission in Solvang. With a rainy beginning to the year, the landscapes surrounding the Mission were vibrant and magnificent, so, naturally, we had to capture the views. I gave Matt and Andrea my usual posing tips and suggestions, and headed to the other side of this pond to start taking photos. By the time I made it to the other side (a mere two minutes later!), it had begun to sprinkle. Never-the-less, we were able to capture the snuggly duo and the beautiful Solvang vistas. Circle Bar B Ranch Wedding | Sarah+David

Newlyweds photos at Circle Bar B Ranch wedding in Goleta, California.

“Everything and anything is “better when we’re together” (Thanks to Jack Johnson for our processional song). David always makes me laugh, and even though he has a tough exterior, he’s secretly a big softie. He says one of the things he loves most about me is my generosity, caring, and the way I am always doing things for others.”
David and Sarah married at Circle Bar B Guest Ranch in Goleta, perfect for the couple’s rustic-themed wedding (their theme also fell in-line with their Ellwood Butterfly Preserve engagement session). The intimate setting and the warm weather made for a lovely family-and-friends get-together to celebrate the couple’s love.
From Sarah: “I think Circle Bar B was the perfect venue for us because it was such a relaxed, intimate setting, where we could be surrounded by our closest friends and family for the weekend, not to mention in Santa Barbara, which is hands down our favorite place. Bringing everyone together for a fun weekend was our main goal.”

“There were so many special things included in our wedding, one of which was I definitely had my “old and borrowed” portion covered. I was the 5th of my closest friends/bridesmaids to get married (I was also a bridesmaid for them), so I got a lot of hand-me-down wedding items. The veil and hair piece I wore had been worn by 2 of them first, all of my jewelry had been their wedding jewelry, along with much of the table and other decor. My aunt sent me my grandmother’s ring from Ireland, which my grandmother had given to her on her wedding day. And I loved that I got to wear my cowboy boots!”

Sarah and David included several unique aspects in their Circle Bar B wedding:
“We included a ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) signing after our rehearsal dinner, which both of our dads signed as witnesses, a close long time friend was our officiant,
and our siblings helped us perform the Celtic tradition of handfasting in our ceremony. I love that we were able to include many age old traditions that were so meaningful to us, but also start our married life off with new traditions and hopefully many more to come.”

“I think my favorite part of the day was our “first kiss”. We are unlikely to be found kissing in front of large groups of people 🙂 but when David, after the first 2 kisses said “Just one more” my heart did a little flutter.”

“Yet another favorite part of our day was visiting and dancing with friends and family from near and far (Goleta, LA, Ireland and Norway)–some we see all the time and
some we haven’t seen in years. It was really fun to combine our Jewish and Irish family traditions, and my love of country and line dancing (dancing the horah, Irish dancing, and country line dancing all in one night was so fun!).”

Langham Pasadena Engagement Photos | Millie+Thomas

Couple laughing at the Langham Hotel Pasadena engagement photoshoot.“We would run into each other over the years after college.  When I moved out to Los Angeles for grad school a few years ago we started dating and here we are!”

Millie and Thomas chose to have their engagement photos taken at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena. Aside from the hotel grounds being gorgeous, the two have spent a lot of time at the Langham Huntington Hotel together throughout the years they’ve been dating, so it was the perfect location for this stylish couple.

So how did Thomas propose?
“Thomas planned a trip to New York City for Christmas last year. The first night on our trip we went to dinner and when we got back to the hotel it had been decorated with rose petals and champagne. After I walked in I turned around and Thomas was on one knee.” Sounds like the perfect Christmas gift!

Belmond El Encanto Wedding | Nikki+Gerry

Bride and groom at Belmond El Encanto wedding.“I love Gerry’s big heart and willingness to help people he loves. He has a very tough exterior, but when he comes to people he cares about there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He is an extremely hard worker and is so driven to provide for me and our future family. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to spend my life with.”

Nikki and Gerry’s Belmond El Encanto wedding was a mix of fun, romance, beauty, and, of course, spunk! 😉 The bubbly duo lucked out with fantastic summer-like weather in November and magnificent sunset colors, which, as Nikki said, made “for an even more magical day.” I couldn’t agree more!

Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara Wedding | Zoe+David

Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.“David and I actually experienced a lot together even within the first 2 years of being together. We were long distance and I moved to the other side of the country so that we could be together. After you experience so many ups and downs that are out of your control, you just form a very special bond with one another.”

The weather was perfect, the sunset was perfect, the couple was perfect…David+Zoe’s Unitarian Society Santa Barbara wedding was magical, and it wasn’t just due to pixie dust 😉 Seeing as the two met at UCSB, they were bound to have their wedding in beautiful Santa Barbara. The duo began their union with their wedding ceremony overlooking the ocean and the Santa Barbara mountains at SBCC’s Winslow-Maxwell Overlook, and continued the fun well into the night at The Unitarian Society.

Zoe and David’s wedding theme was travel, so it was pretty coincidental that the house they rented for the ladies to get ready in had a huge map of the world hanging in the dining area!

The theme was so important for the two because “it’s something that has brought us together to have unforgettable experiences. The first time David and I went abroad together was to teach English together in China and travel around Thailand, and ever since then we’ve been trying to make as much time as possible to travel internationally and experience the vibrancy of other cultures to expand our perspectives.”The bride with her bridesmaids and their matching robes. The bride getting into her Miss Hayley Paige wedding dress. The wedding bouquets by The Twisted Twig. The wedding bouquets by The Twisted Twig. The wedding rings resting on the bride's bouquet. The groom's boutonniere by the Twisted Twig. The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony. The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony. The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony.

The couple’s choice for their wedding ceremony really offered the best views of Santa Barbara–beach, ocean and mountains! From Zoe on why they chose this spot to wed, “David used to attend Santa Barbara City College so he was familiar with Winslow, which is a very underrated, best kept secret spot in Santa Barbara.” I would agree!

The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony. The wedding bouquets by The Twisted Twig. The bride posing for the camera.

When asked if Zoe included anything special during the wedding, she replied, “Yes, I was wearing my god mother’s pearls that she gave me. This was my “something borrowed” and it was really special to wear because I know I am like a daughter to her and she’s seen me grow up all these years!”

What do the two love most about each other?
“I love David’s ambition and his motivation to make the most out of life. I also love how he pushes me outside of my comfort zone, which allows me to grow. David loves how caring and genuine I am, and that we both have the same sense of humor.”Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.

David and Zoe “…loved the lights of the Unitarian Society and the Santa Barbara-esque look of the building,” which was one of the deciding factor for having their wedding reception there. The bride and groom in front of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara. The bride and groom in front of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara.

So what were their favorite parts of the big day?

“Both David and I were so grateful to re-connect with everyone we love. That was the true highlight of the day. Outside of that, the speeches were both heartfelt and hilarious (like when David’s little brother told the tale of the aftermath of his bachelor party). Also, I personally was excited for the open dance floor because I couldn’t way to just cut loose!”

Glen Annie Golf Club Wedding | Ashley+Taylor

Newlyweds take sunset photos at Glen Annie Golf Club wedding.

“Every daydream I had about my future had him in it. When I thought about building a life together and a family, he was always there. People always talk about their ‘better half’, I think when you find someone you want to be with forever, they really do become such a part of you that without them around, it would seem like half of yourself was missing. He is definitely my better half.”

Wow. Ashley and Taylor were definitely made for each other. From the way they looked and touched each other, to the way they spoke about and to one another, and the way their family and friends spoke of them and their love, it’s clear these two have found their other half.

The day started with getting ready photos, then the duo’s first look at the Coronado Butterfly Preserve, followed by their Glen Annie Golf Club wedding ceremony and reception. The day could not have been more perfect.

When I walked in to find out Ashley had created ALL the florals (bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, etc.) I was in awe! Everything looked amazing! “The first look was really special. Taylor teared up instantly and it was so sweet to see. It was such a great moment for us to share before the craziness of the day began. That and at the very end of the wedding when the last song ended, everyone who was on the dance floor got in one giant group hug around me and Taylor. It was sweaty and suffocating but so SO sweet and special.” Bride and groom's first look at the Coronado Butterfly Preserve in Goleta.

Why did Ashley and Taylor choose Glen Annie Golf Club for their big day?

“Glen Annie was such an amazing wedding venue. We wanted a place where we could have the ceremony and reception together and it worked out so perfectly. The patio with the fireplace is such a cute cozy place for the reception and the gazebo is such a pretty backdrop for the ceremony, plus the view!! So pretty. The staff there is amazing and so helpful, we feel so lucky to have found that location for our wedding day.” Wedding ceremony details at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta, CA.Wedding ceremony details at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta, CA.Wedding ceremony details at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta, CA.

“Saying our vows was a really impactful and walking down the isle together is definitely something I’ll never forget.”

I asked Taylor how he knew Ashley was The One…

“It wasn’t something I noticed, but when friends joked about us getting married it didn’t sound like a bad idea. If I imagined having a family, Ashley was by my side. If we hit a tough time it wasn’t if we would make it through, it was how; because there was no if. “Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.Bride and groom portraits at Glen Annie Golf Club, Goleta, CA.

When I asked Ashley what she loves most about Taylor, this was her response,

“I love how genuine he is. He knows exactly who he is and he is never afraid to be himself. He has a confidence and honesty about him that is so rare these days. Seeing how he carries himself always inspires me. His love is so whole-hearted and sweet, for me and everyone he cares for. He puts himself out there and I have never met a person that didn’t like him. I feel so lucky that he is mine!”

When I asked what was the inspiration for the couple’s big day and if there was anything unique to it, this is what they said:

From Ashley, “We wanted it to be relaxed and fun, basically just a big party! We tried to put as much of ourselves into it as possible. We DIY’ed as much as we could and really tried to make it our own. We just wanted people to enjoy themselves and be there to celebrate with us!”

From Taylor, “I am from the east coast, and Ashley’s from the west so we really tried to create a day when our families and friends could meet and have a great time together. We chose to make a lot of the decorations for the wedding. It took a lot of time but it made the day really special because everything was exactly how we wanted it. It was also a lot of fun doing the the projects together. Ashley took a class on flower arrangement and decided that she could order and arrange all of the flowers for the wedding. Her fingerprints were everywhere in our wedding which made it really special. Again we got to have exactly what we wanted, and lots of family and friends got to help.

We had a lot of fun coming up with different projects for the wedding and spent a lot of time making them unique to us!”

What is Ashley most looking forward to as a married couple?

“I think I am most looking forward to starting a family with him. I can’t even express how amazing I know he will be as a dad. I am so excited to share that with him and build our lives together.”

And Taylor?

“Honestly all of it. Traveling is fun, owning a house seems like a great adventure and we are both excited about eventually starting a family. But also the little things, getting obsessed over new foods together, holidays and weekend trips, navigating school and careers. It’s all part of the adventure and we get to do it together.”

Congratulations, Taylor and Ashley! Your Glen Annie Golf Club wedding was out of a fairy-tale, and I have no doubt you will have an adventurous and love-filled marriage.

Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement | Samantha+Jack

The bride and groom taking photos during their Courthouse elopement.

“We adore each other, respect each other, and we always have fun! Most importantly, we have been through so much, and we know we can always count on working together as a team to solve problems TOGETHER.”

Elopements are the perfect way for two people to celebrate their union in an intimate and stress-free way (as stress-free as any wedding-day can be!). Samantha and Jack’s Santa Barbara Courthouse elopement was just that–carefree and full of love. We started off at the Courthouse, and then continued to the Biltmore for even more picturesque locations, including Butterfly Beach.

From Samantha, “Since we plan to have two more celebrations later in the year with families and friends in Europe and in Asia, we wanted to first have a private weekend where the two of us could focus on each other and celebrate the union in a beautiful and relaxing setting without being overwhelmed or stressed.”The bride and groom taking photos during their Courthouse elopement. The newlyweds after their Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement. The newlyweds after their Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement. The newlyweds after their Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement. The newlyweds after their Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement. When I asked why the duo chose the Courthouse and the Four Seasons for their special day, Samantha replied, “We loved the timeless architecture of the Courthouse and the beautiful and colorful scenery at the Four Seasons Biltmore.”The couple taking photos at the Four Seasons Santa Barbara gardens. The couple taking photos at the Four Seasons Santa Barbara gardens. The newlyweds kissing at the Biltmore. The newlyweds kissing at the Biltmore. The newlyweds kissing at the Biltmore. The bride and groom hugging during the wedding photos at their Biltmore wedding.

Elings Park Santa Barbara Wedding | Kerry+Eric

Bride and groom hugging during sunset at Elings Park wedding.

Our favorite part of the day was walking up the steps of the amphitheater, knowing we were officially Mr. and Mrs. Covella. Our other favorite part of the day was having everyone together. It was so nice to have so many of our friends and family surrounding us.

Eric and Kerry celebrated their Elings Park wedding in Santa Barbara, and although the Goleta Scherpa Fire had us a bit worried, the day turned out perfectly, and I couldn’t have asked for a more in-love, relaxed and easy-to-work-with couple. Below is a slideshow from their day, scroll below to view the images at your own pace.

The duo incorporated several things in to the big day that made their wedding even more personal and special. From Kerry:

“The earrings that I wore were my grandmothers’. My sister wore them for her wedding as well. It was great to be able to incorporate a little piece of her into our wedding days as she was such a big influence in our lives growing up and we love to incorporate what we can about the families. We also tried to incorporate small but meaningful rituals into our ceremony such as the tying of the knot and the breaking of the glass. Two tributes to each of our families was nice in a ceremony about union.”

Elings Park is a great location for couples wanting to have their entire wedding outdoors and in one location. I was a little nervous that if the winds changed that could become a possibility but was happy that didn’t happen. We were also happy to know that no homes were destroyed or lives lost due to the fire.” While the fire was of big concern, it did help create memorable photos for Kerry and Eric.

So what are the two most looking forward to as a married couple? “We are looking forward to just being married and it being just the two of us for a few years and then starting a family of our own.”Night time photos of the bride and groom at Elings Park.
