Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara Wedding | Zoe+David

Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.“David and I actually experienced a lot together even within the first 2 years of being together. We were long distance and I moved to the other side of the country so that we could be together. After you experience so many ups and downs that are out of your control, you just form a very special bond with one another.”

The weather was perfect, the sunset was perfect, the couple was perfect…David+Zoe’s Unitarian Society Santa Barbara wedding was magical, and it wasn’t just due to pixie dust 😉 Seeing as the two met at UCSB, they were bound to have their wedding in beautiful Santa Barbara. The duo began their union with their wedding ceremony overlooking the ocean and the Santa Barbara mountains at SBCC’s Winslow-Maxwell Overlook, and continued the fun well into the night at The Unitarian Society.

Zoe and David’s wedding theme was travel, so it was pretty coincidental that the house they rented for the ladies to get ready in had a huge map of the world hanging in the dining area!

The theme was so important for the two because “it’s something that has brought us together to have unforgettable experiences. The first time David and I went abroad together was to teach English together in China and travel around Thailand, and ever since then we’ve been trying to make as much time as possible to travel internationally and experience the vibrancy of other cultures to expand our perspectives.”The bride with her bridesmaids and their matching robes. The bride getting into her Miss Hayley Paige wedding dress. The wedding bouquets by The Twisted Twig. The wedding bouquets by The Twisted Twig. The wedding rings resting on the brideThe groomThe bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony. The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony. The bride and groom at their Winslow Overlook wedding ceremony.

The couple’s choice for their wedding ceremony really offered the best views of Santa Barbara–beach, ocean and mountains! From Zoe on why they chose this spot to wed, “David used to attend Santa Barbara City College so he was familiar with Winslow, which is a very underrated, best kept secret spot in Santa Barbara.” I would agree!

When asked if Zoe included anything special during the wedding, she replied, “Yes, I was wearing my god mother’s pearls that she gave me. This was my “something borrowed” and it was really special to wear because I know I am like a daughter to her and she’s seen me grow up all these years!”

What do the two love most about each other?
“I love David’s ambition and his motivation to make the most out of life. I also love how he pushes me outside of my comfort zone, which allows me to grow. David loves how caring and genuine I am, and that we both have the same sense of humor.”Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.Bride and groom kissing at The Unitarian Society wedding.

David and Zoe “…loved the lights of the Unitarian Society and the Santa Barbara-esque look of the building,” which was one of the deciding factor for having their wedding reception there. The bride and groom in front of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara. The bride and groom in front of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara.

So what were their favorite parts of the big day?

“Both David and I were so grateful to re-connect with everyone we love. That was the true highlight of the day. Outside of that, the speeches were both heartfelt and hilarious (like when David’s little brother told the tale of the aftermath of his bachelor party). Also, I personally was excited for the open dance floor because I couldn’t way to just cut loose!”

What are the two most looking forward to as a married couple?
“We’re looking forward to building a life together and figuring out what the next step is for us. We’re currently working on goals as a couple and family and we are looking forward to the future!”
